The Folk Effect is a free, online, high-speed music-writing event spread over six days in which five folk bands from across the UK will each have twenty-four hours to write a new song directly inspired by the one created and released the day before.

Quench your live-music thirst and relish all that folk music is about: community, creativity and the sharing of great tunes!

Streamed at 7:00pm each evening on Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, and here on our website - culminating in an omnibus of all six new songs to end the week, in a new folk music conversation.

WHY HAVE WE MADE THE FOLK EFFECT?

Like so many theatre companies this year, we had many theatrical plans cancelled in the wake of the COVID pandemic. However, it’s not in our nature to be put off from creating, and as a result, we chose to take this time and opportunity to focus on celebrating music making and music sharing.

Ondervinden’s shows are shaped by the traditional musicians who play live in every performance, and this has led us to form strong connections in the folk communities across Glasgow, Edinburgh, London, and the South-West, communities which inform and support every project that we make. These collaborations are led by our Musical Director, Jonathan Ip.
